On the eve of a new year...

Im very thoughtful this new years eve on where 2008 will take my musical career. I have been in talks with management, my band and even a side girl group collaboration(will dish more details soon) I am planning to get a taste of the production side of my music as well as continuing to write for myself and others. I have been extremely blessed with my accomplishments this year (formed band, packed shows, 2nd southern entertainment award nomination, etc...) and can only hope to expect more in 2008.

Below is a pic of the acoustic set I performed in August.

See You Next Year!

Been gone for a minute..

Hey all. I know its been a while since I blogged but I have been making some changes to the band and those on the business end of my music. Its crazy to see how people have the best of intentions but just dont really see your vision. I am in talks right now with new management and am very excited about the opportunity.

I am working hard on new music and getting ready to begin rehearsals with the band for new shows coming up in the new year. You guys can expect several new mixtape appearances. BIG THINGS ARE POPPIN...

Quick check in...

Hey guys.. I will be performing at Bohemeo's August 31, 2007 at 8pm. Come out and see the changes we have made. I will talk more about it soon.

The Scott Gertner show was great! People really enjoyed the music and were really grooving to the sound. We have lately been trying out a select group of songs to see which ones we want to put on the EP. Move on, being a front runner, seems to be a crowd favorite. Below is a video of my band rehearsing Move On. Tell me what you think!

We will be performing a brief set at Ant Boogie of Collective Hallucination's B Day bash on July 21st. If you are in Houston you should come out!

Dominique and Scott Gertner

We are reherasing tonight and I am amazed at our band's progress from one show to the next. This weekend we will be doing a show here in Houston at Scott Gertner's Bar and Grill. If you are in the area you def will want to stop in and watch our set. We go on at 6pm.

I do have footage for you from the Mocha Life Show. I am singing a very special song that I wrote for... Enjoy.

Band Auditions

I recently held auditions in Houston to find musicians for my backing band. It was a very fun experience! I think I have just about narrowed it down to my actual band and I'll unveil them here soon. Just keep reading and watching. Oh how could I forget! I am featured on the front page of popular hip hop website sohh.com talking about my favorite place to hangout in Houston. Check it out. http://sohh.com

Grammy's

No video today but I had to comment on the biggest award show in music. The "Grammy's"!!! Not to discount the other amazing award shows that display acheivements in music but the Grammy's is the ultimate show. I have been practicing my Grammy speech since I knew the show existed (Yes Im confident!) I always look forward to watching the unique performances and seeing how the artists choose to present themselves on a night that could ultimately change their carreers. I get a chill when it comes on TV because I know one day I'll be on that same red carpet, sitting in that same room with the biggest names in music and it won't be a front to say to reporters "It's just and honor to be nominated!"

Finishing a song

I know it's been a few days since I blogged but I just had a birthday and I have been writing a new song for the album! I have uploaded some footage of me recording Lover's Game. Enjoy!

On & On

As I go each day preparing for the release of my debut CD I am surrounding myself with all types of music. Broadway, Gospel, Hip Hop, Rock, Neo Soul... you name it. I recently had to pull my Baduism CD by Erykah Badu out of retirement. Say what you want about her but that CD jammed! It made you think! With lyrics like "Peace and blessings manifest with every lesson learned. If knowledge were your wealth then it would be well earned" you felt her message kinda like Lauryn Hill. While I search for my Miseducation of Lauryn Hill CD enjoy this performance of On&On by Erykah Badu. Happy Friday!

As I was getting ready to post this I thought about another singer who was out of the box, Alanis Morissette. My sister Angela hipped me to Ironic years ago and I still love it! Enjoy!

The Writing Session

Over the weekend I had a writing session with Ant Boogie of the Soul Band Collective Hallucination. A hot up and coming producer submitted a track to me for the album so we decided to go in and work on it. I'm excited about the possibilities.

Stay tuned for more footage of the creation of this song!

Dreamgirls...

I love everything Dreamgirls! The musical, the movie, the cast, the plot, and of course the music! I usually incoporate some type of cover into my show so as I put together my set list I had to add one of the amazing songs from the movie. Everyone loves "Listen" by Beyonce and "And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going" but I really love one of J Hud's other songs called "Love You I Do". It was nominated for an Oscar today so it seems like the perfect timing!

Here is Jennifer Hudson singing "Love You I do"

I'll be uploading footage of me rehearsing this song with my band soon.

South By Southwest (maybe?)

South by Southwest is a music showcase that happens in March in Austin that showcases musical acts from around the globe. Bands submit music to perform and be seen in one of their official showcases. During that time there are also several un official showcases that bands can play in as well. I did not attend last year, but I'm hoping to make my debut this year. Although I don't plan to submit music for the offical showcase, I hope to perform in one of the GoGirlsMusic Unofficial showcases. Go Girls is an amazing organization formed by Madlyn Skyler to promote female muscians. They always support great charities and I'm always down to perform for a good cause.

Houston has its own version of the SXSW Music Festival called South by Due East. South by Due East is a multi-day live music festival and movie-shoot organized by musicians for musicians. Last year I performed a few songs with soul band Collective Hallucination. Its only fitting that I show you footage from this as I prepare to possibly to perform at both festivals. I'll keep you posted.

Welcome to Dominique TV

Hi! My name is Dominique McKinley and I am an aspiring singer/songwriter from Houston Texas. I have been singing for years but things started to pick up for me in 2006. I toured locally in the state of Texas, was nominated for a Southern Entertainment Award and even gained overseas radio airplay. I'm so excited about the new year because I am beginning the recording of my debut album. I have so much coming up and so much to share with you. Ride with me as I document my dream.
